I’ve written user manuals for both hardware and software products, quick start guides (or getting started guides), and installation guides for networking hardware.
At times, I have developed a manual’s content in Word and it then gets formatted by me or someone else in QuarkXPress or InDesign. I also develop directly in Word, QuarkXPress, InDesign, or FrameMaker.
Some projects require creating and organizing content from scratch; others involve minor updates to document new features; and some projects are extensive rewrites (or re-use) of existing content.
